Bully For Just One Day

harry-potter-movie-bullyI was born and raised in a small Caribbean island: Puerto Rico. Since I was a kid I have always been very independent, I did my own thing at my own time. Most of the time I was out of trouble but that was just “most” of the time. While in middle school I got in with a great crowd of friends. We were like 20 kids that were always together, we went to the mall and the theater and did all sorts of stuff. After middle school only about 6 of us stayed close friends and we would do all sorts of things to remember our days in middle school.  One day we went to the mall to catch a movie but the theater was full and the movie was sold out (We were going to see one of the first Harry Potter films). We tried sneaking in or buying tickets from random people but nothing seemed to work so we had to take drastic measures.

We decided that we had to make a plan and have a back up. I had an adult’s voice so I was in charge of the talking. We went in to the movie theater restroom and took our positions.  Two girls and four boys; that was our team... We knew a couple of younger kids from our school that were going to see the movie and lured them in to the restroom.  The plan was simple. We were to make the boys (and one girl) “have” to give us the tickets.  I got into a stall and my friend was holding the door for me. One of the girls that had the tickets for the movie was sneaking out, and I knew right then and there she was the perfect victim. I got out of the stall and found her putting some lip gloss on, in front of the mirror. I went up to her and simply asked her: “So your mom doesn’t know you are here right?” and she looked at me frightened. She answered with a soft monotone voice: “No my mom is very religious and doesn’t approve the movie”. I had met her mother the day of my 8th grade graduation and knew how frantic she would get if she knew her daughter was about to watch this movie, so I told the girl that I had her mom’s number and that I was going to call her so that she would come rushing and pick her up.  The girl started to cry immediately but I didn’t care, I acted like a true bully (THAT was a first since I was a very kind teenager “most of the time”). The girl told me that she would pay me if I kept her dirty little secret but I didn’t need nor wanted her money so I got into a negotiation with her. She was to give me her ticket and get her friends to give up their tickets and I wasn’t going to tell her mom that she not only was going to watch Harry Potter but also that she had a boyfriend and sneaked out with him and his friends (I also was going to add that they were pot smokers, which was entirely false). I also gave her terms and conditions. If word got to me that she told anyone about what I had asked her I was going to tell her mom anyways. The girl kept crying and gave me her ticket. I gave her 10 minutes to tell her boyfriend and his friends that her mom had called her and that she needed to leave with them and get home because her mom knew what was going on. The guys came up to me to see if I wanted to buy the tickets that they had, so my friends bought them and we got in. To this day nobody except for my 5 friends knows about this crazy scam.  I still watch the Harry Potter movie and it makes me laugh (although I feel bad for being a bully, but that was just a one day thing and I was a BIG fan).
