police-car-chaseIt was the beginning of fall and I was a 17 year old kid with a shiny 1993 Black Ford Probe GT, that I loved to speed in. My friends told me that Adam P. was having a keg party at his house and everyone from our high-school who's anyone was going to be there.

I knew Adam, but I wasn't a close friend; I guess you would call us acquaintances more than anything. But whenever we ran into each other we would give each other daps and exchange high-school small talk like: you still going out with whats her name and where's the party at.

Well you know me if there's alcohol and my friends are going, then I have to go there too. I scooped up Brian, Jaime, and Brian's friend Jacky. Jacky and his brother dabbled in selling weed and he was a pretty cool guy. With a name like Jacky you would think people would make fun of him, but I think the tall Jamaican appearance in army gear deterred most jokes about his name.

Brian told Jacky that sometimes I drive fast but I had skills so he shouldn't worry if we happened to chill together and I get crafty with the car like I seemed to do very often. I guess I should tell you that I started my driving career at 14 when I began stealing my dads car when he was sleeping, but I'll save that story for another time.

Well the four of us got together and Jacky treated us to a nice blunt of some very potent weed, the kind that would make even the advanced tokers choke if they happened to inhale too much. We're cruising around our hometown toking on some good bud and listening to GZA on my ridiculous system that hit 145 decibels at a system contest. LOL, when I think about that I used to drink forties and smoke blunts while I woke up entire neighborhoods without fearing the cops nowadays I just laugh at myself. It's like I was asking for trouble and blatantly saying hey I'm rolling down your street making a roccus and I'm intoxicated!

We get to Adam's house and half of the high school is already there. We all get our keg drinking on and mingle in the crowd. I remember that some kid from Rhode Island showed up in a drop top Ford Probe! I was freaking shocked, this kid had a custom made drop top out of the car that I had, damn that was cool.

Hours and hours later and after a couple fights broke out which was the norm for any of the parties that I've been to our crew decided to head out. We got in my car sparked another fat blunt and began driving.

I got onto a main road which is about 7 miles long and terminates into an on ramp for a highway. I was doing about 70 on a 25mph road when I drove by a cop who was in the other lane. My heart jumped into my throat when I noticed the cop and he immediately sparked on his lights and did a quick u turn to begin chasing me.

Once I saw this mess, I down shifted into third gear and romped on the gas. I was doing 110 mph on this road seconds later when I began passing more cops who were in the opposite lane and don't forget that I already had one cop chasing me with his lights on. I think the cops were on their way to break up Adams party and I just happened to be lucky enough to be caught-up in this mess.

I saw my situation as choice-less, I simply had to get away from these cops no matter what. Why? Well we are all reeking of beer, there's weed smoke in the car, and I'm  doing 120 mph now on 25mph street/route. Man! I passed 3 more cruisers in the opposite lane who also immediately pulled a u turn and began chasing me. At this point my heart was pounding out of my chest and not even a peep was uttered from any of my passengers. I was so lucky to have a clear lane that day which I do think was a blessing because at that speed it would have been impossible to stop quickly even though I had soupped up braking system on my Probe.

I came to the end of the road quickly which if you remember becomes an on ramp for a highway. The intersection I was speeding towards at 125mph now had a red light and there was a cruiser coming off the highway on the other side!!! I blew through the intersection and entered the highway at 125mph then I noticed two unfortunate things. There was a Corvette in one lane and a Cadillac in the other lane on this two lane highway both doing about 60mph while I'm heading at them full speed. The Caddy begins to signal as I blast him with my high-beams and I slam on my brakes. I couldn't believe it I slammed the brakes but I'm still headed at this Cadillac which felt like light-speed. Luckily in the nick of time the Caddy moves out of my way and I downshift to catch a better RPM range to continue evading all the cops that were chasing me.

I continued traveling at the  full speed of my car which was 130mph, and slickly took the first exist and created a quick getaway route. 10 minutes and a ton of adrenaline later I stopped running because I safely made my getaway. Everyone began talking in the car. I remember Brian said the first words "Dam son, that was some ill driving, good job man". At this point my hands were still shaking from all the adrenaline and I think everyone that day learned two things. Number one, I could drive the living daylights out of a car in order to getaway, and number two we could have easily died any number of times during that chase if even a tiny thing went wrong.

***Keep reading my stories, they're all pretty crazy and their the reason I have so much gray hair. Long story short, it's best not to get into these situations in the first place. Can you imagine what would have happened if a car crossed that intersection and I'm doing 125mph? I can, it would have been instant death for everyone involved. It's true that I out ran the law a few times but trust me every-time I took a huge risk, HUGE risk and I hope I deter some of you from not making the stupid choices I made when I was a teenager.
