shopliftingThis happened when I was sixteen, and although I kinda regret it, I wouldn't change it. My best friend, Meg, came to live with me for the summer, and I was super excited. She had all new clothes, and some, she gave to me. I couldn't take so much, but She told me they were really cheap, and she didn't like the way they fit on her. It seemed like every day she'd have something new. One shirt, had a price tag on it for 50 dollars. FIFTY FREAKIN DOLLARS!?! I wanted to know what was up. She told me they were cheap, not a good 50 bucks. Where was she getting all this money? Or where did the guy sell all these clothes out of his trunk?

After about two weeks of all new clothes, I questioned her. Instead of telling me, we hopped into her car, and she took me to the mall. The mall, which is full of all my favorite places. Before we walked in, Meg took her perfume, her brush, her hairspray and her makeup bag out of her purse. I couldn't get what in the world she was doing, but I didn't ask. We walked in, and straight into her favorite store. She picked up a shirt, twisted the security tag until it popped off, rolled it into a nice little bundle and then quickly and discretely put it into her purse. I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY BEST FRIEND WAS STEALING! It just didn't seem like a thing she would do. I watched her do it to SIX shirts, a pair of jeans, socks, underwear and a purse, all in that one shopping trip. She seemed so relaxed and cool about it. After about an hour of her "shopping" we went back out to the car, where she dumped the contents of her purse into the backseat.

She chose three shirts, and the jeans, and put them on her lap. She started the car up, and drove down the road to Plato's Closet. In the parking lot, she bit off the tags, wrinkled them up a little bit, rubbed the knees of the jeans with some scissors, and then took them in, and came out with 30 bucks. She went "shopping" every other day, and every time she'd take me with. One day, after I asked her to get me a really cute tank top, she told me to do it. She helped me with the security tag, and then showed me how to make it small enough to hide into my purse, and then just like that, it was in my purse, and I was stealing. I was shaking like a leaf when we walked past the security sirens on the door, I just KNEW they were going to start beeping. They didn't. I was amazed. I was full of adrenaline, and wanted to do it again. I took things that I really didn't need. I took a flask, some socks, a book, a hat, a purse, some CD's. Anything I could get my hands on. Then, we both started staying the night at our friend Allie's house.

Allie, love her to death, is a goody-two-shoes. She's very perfect and very rich. She doesn't drink, steal or do drugs. She's a very good girl. Unlike me though, she had a feeling we were stealing all of our new clothes. She wanted to know how to do it. We showed her. She was the sneakiest of us all, she used the biggest purse, and took more than enough things. She took the most expensive things, even electronics, which Meg and I wouldn't mess with. Allie would dump out her purse, and go back for more. We went on this streak for almost the whole summer.

But in August, on a late night, after about a week of close calls, we went to the local super market, with the most cameras, because we wanted stupid little things, for Allie's birthday party, which was in three days. It was almost 11 o clock, and our purses were empty, and our fingers were itching to take something. We walked in, straight to the makeup, and took eyeliner, nail polish, and whatever else we thought we'd need to get all spiffed up. Then we headed to the party isle, and took balloons, paints, and sparkles. Then Meg walked over and grabbed a few scary movies, for later on in the night. Then we decided, that our purses were quite full, so we started heading out. We walked through the first door, nothing. Halfway to the next door, we had a hand grab our shoulders and tell us to PLEASE give them their merchandise back. Automatically Allie started crying. Meg didn't look like she knew what was going on, and I, I couldn't help but laugh, because that's what we got caught with, after all these days of taking something actually important, we were going to get caught with balloons and makeup. The cop told everyone that he followed us and actually TALKED to all of us, while we were "shopping" I couldn't believe that he would LIE like that. We were stunned, full of tears, and shock. Then, my old neighbor walked in to arrest us. And all I could think of, was "Mr. Officer, you can put some cuffs on me" I was actually relieved we got him. I had a crush on this guy for years. And since he knew me and Meg pretty well, he wasn't mean, and actually joked around with us.

I wasn't scared, until my mom showed up. I thought she was going to EXPLODE. Appearantly so did Meg, and Allie. Meg was nearly put in the juvenile detention, because her parents live quite awhile away. It was kinda scary to know she was going to go there. Eventually they came.

Anyways, we were escorted to the police station, where we had our mugshots taken, and our fingerprints scanned. Officer Hottie was pretty nice about the whole thing, and even told me to smile because he was taking my picture.

The whole time we were sitting there, all I could think of was, was the famous quote,  "A good friend will come bail you out, but a good friend will be sitting there saying 'DAMN WE FxCKED UP!'" I was in the middle, and my friends were DEFINITELY saying that.

By the way, Meg and Allie haven't stopped.
