Brain Hemorrhage Experience

brain-hemorrhageOuch! A quick, sharp pain entered my eye and suddenly the world was black for a  second followed by red; bright orange, red. A red so bright, that it screamed to me.  No wait, that was my own scream. I was blind and turned sharply, only to walk into the wall; the hallway in its blackness and I felt like a ball bouncing between the walls until I could feel no wall left.

My mother and father rushed to my side,  What happened they asked.  I could not know because I saw only red and I did not see them at all.  Yet I could hear my brother laughing and I wanted to smack the crap out of him. I awoke to find myself in a children’s ward in the hospital; it was 1966 and back then it consisted of 10 or more children in cage like beds with very high sides, so you couldn't get out.  I awoke with 2 sand bags on either side of my head-couldn't move- couldn't get up--no modern medicine here! I heard "brain hemorrhage" and "bleeding behind the eye".  I would lay there, face up for close to 2 months, not moving.

The bug under the microscope, everyone looking and watching, making sure the bleeding in my head stopped. All because I chose to throw a cap rocket down the stairs; all because there was a tire leaning against the wall at the bottom of the stairs; and the rocket hit it and ricocheted back and hit me in the eye; all because my brother said it would be fun! Fun Indeed!
